AYSO Region 916 - Initiatives 2010

Our Regional Focus for 2010 -

1) Develop a Master Plan for running the Region that is durable year to year. This includes
  a. Reusable Master Calendar
       (the framework of the calendar
is the same from year to year0
  b. Regional Organization Chart
       (captures volunteer requirements
       to support the regions growth)
  c. Region Management Processes
(write down how we do things
        so we can improve)

2) Develop a Region 916
    Communications Plan
(All of us need to know what is going on when)

3) Focus on Player, Coach, Referee
    and Board Volunteer Development
(We want our kid's to be their best,
so we have to be involved and
     be our best too!)

Last year was a great year for Soccer in Athens, AL and for catching up on yearly rainfall totals!

First a few thank you's from last year:
Special thanks to our Regional Commissioner Wes Brown for his tireless efforts last fall. Wes led the charge with his wife Teresa and the Belts running the entire Region and season last fall! By all accounts, the season was a complete success. Thanks Wes!
Thanks to Teresa Brown for supporting Wes and all the effort as the Regional Scheduler - scheduling, re-scheduling and re-scheduling last year due to all the rain. It went very smoothly and you did a fantastic job.
Thanks to Melissa Belt for serving as our Region Child & Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA). The CVPA makes sure that we all have our paperwork in order to take advantage of the Medical and Legal Insurance provided by AYSO at the national level. We get her the forms and she does the rest...Thanks Melisa!
Thanks to Lance Belt for serving as the Regional Coach Administrator last year and Wes's right hand man. Lance was instrumental in updating our pre-season player evaluation process that resulted in such balanced teams and great competition last year. Thanks Lance!
Thanks to Keith Hilliard for serving as the Regional Referee Administrator. He and his band of merry men and women, Dale McDonough, AJ Hick, Wes Brown and many others, handled all the games and the tournament teams. They went over and above and we appreciate you folks!

Welcome, Athens AYSO Region 916 Teams & Volunteers!

From The Commish - No Fall Soccer! :-(

Athens AYSO Families and Friends,

Region 916 will not be able to successfully offer a Fall 2010 soccer  program. With the City offering a fall soccer program and having other access  agreements with the City schools, the Athens Bible School and some local  soccer clubs to use the Sportsplex soccer fields this fall, Region 916 will  not have adequate field space for practices or games.

NOTE: If you played AYSO soccer in the Fall 2009 season,  your membership lasts through the end of July. There are currently 5 soccer  camps scheduled in Madison, Huntsville and Cullman during the month of July  that you can attend. More information can be found at
www.ayso.org/camps.

* Obviously, our first recommendation is another AYSO  program. Contact information and links to the East Limestone, Ardmore,  Rogersville, Hartselle, Madison, and Monrovia regions can be found at http://athenssoccer.org, http://area5f.org, and http://ayso5c.clubspaces.com. Registration should  be open until late July but register soon so they can plan for the increase in  the number of players.

* Alternately, Upward Soccer (
www.upward.org) is also  available this year at Friendship United Methodist Church in Athens. However,  registration closes and evaluations finish up Saturday, June  19th.

* Alabama Youth Soccer Association (AYSO) affiliated programs will be available through the city and Prime leagues.

Fees that have been submitted for the 2010 Fall  registration will be returned.

AYSO Volunteers are committed to quality soccer offerings  and player development in Athens and are proud to have contributed to the  growing soccer community here since 1993. We would like to thank all the 2010  volunteers for their willingness to help and encourage you to get involved and  support whatever league you choose to enroll your player in this Fall and in  future seasons.

Sincerely,
Nat Albritton
